At Jeni Health, we are building the other half of the medical record.
A medical record is very good at remembering what medicine did. Open any chart and it’s all there: the diagnoses, the prescriptions, the labs, what was said at each visit. Recording care is something healthcare does extremely well.
What the chart mostly can’t tell you is what happened to the person. Whether the nausea faded or settled in for good. Whether dinner got easier. What the weeks after a dose change actually looked like at home. The half of the story where a treatment either works or quietly stops working has never really been written down.
There’s a fair reason for that. Keeping such a record used to be impossible. You can’t send a nurse home with every patient, and nobody keeps a diary for long. So medicine wrote down what it could see, which was the visits, and learned to work from samples. For a hundred years that was the right compromise.
We don’t think it’s the right compromise anymore. A phone can turn a photograph of dinner into a decent record of dinner. It can mark a dose on the day it was taken, and a rough morning while it’s still morning. For the first time, the patient’s half of the story can be kept without asking the patient to become a clerk.
We’re starting in weight care because that’s where the missing half costs the most. The treatment runs for months, almost entirely at home. The results are made between appointments, and the decisions, raise the dose or hold it, land at visits where the record is whatever the patient can remember.
Jeni is our start on the other half. The patient keeps their story on their phone, mostly by pointing a camera at dinner; that part began as a consumer app, and people we’ve never met use it every day. For clinics, your program goes home with the patient, and before each visit the weeks come back to you as a short, plain account. Jeni decides nothing and messages no one in your name; it’s a record, and the judgment stays yours.
We think a record like this will eventually sit beside the chart in most of chronic medicine. That’s a long road. It starts with a small number of weight-loss clinics that want their care to work this way now, and the first ones are being chosen. If yours should be one of them, .
With care,

P.S. It’s already built. The demo clinic is open if you’d like to look around.
